W.J Hughes was a lifelong devotee of the steam traction engine: and for very many years his regular articles on the subject appeared in Model Engineer. Whilst to his regret the acquisition of a fullsize engine was beyond his means for most of his life he did the next best thing in producing a model of his favourite Allchin that has become the favourite and most popular steam model of all time.
