Young Engineer Lathe Award

An Engineering In Miniature reader has made an extremely generous bequest of a Myford Super 7 Lathe with gearbox and tooling. The intention is that the lathe be awarded to a young person involved in the hobby to enable them to start their own workshop.

The award will be determined by a panel of model engineers who have many years’ experience in the hobby. The panel will be made with a representative from the Southern Federation, the Northern Association and the Midlands Federation with the Managing Director of TEE Publishing Ltd, the Engineering In Miniature Editor and the Club News Editor completing the team.In order to help the panel achieve the right balance and selection we are asking modellers to nominate a young person who in their opinion will benefit from such an award. The nominee should be proposed and seconded by two other modellers and the nominee should also indicate that they wish to be considered and for their entry to be made public.

The proposed and two seconders should offer a brief resume of the young person’s achievements and why they feel they would be a worthy recipient of this machine. The young person will also be asked to submit a short summary of why they feel they should be considered and to list their involvement and achievements to date.

The age range for the award is 15 to 20, but if there is a particularly advanced young person between 12 and 15 they can also be considered, if the proposers are convinced they would be good candidates.

The Winner will be announced by the end of September 2016 and the award made at the Midlands Model Engineering Exhibition on Sunday 16th October 2016 following Prizegiving of awards for individual exhibitors at the exhibition. Closing date for entries 31st August 2016.
