Peter's Railway
Christopher Vine
While there are lots of railway books for very young readers, there is very little to follow on and maintain their interest as they grow older and more enquiring.

The major part of this book is a story about a railway but there is also some simple technical, or how-it-works, information. The intention is for the story to interest the reader first, with the information there to feed the interest and answer some questions.

It is not all necessary to look at the technical pages to understand the story and these pages are all in a boundary box to make it clear that they are something different. They are spread through the book, at the end of the chapters where they are most relevant.

This is the first book in a new series.

“At last here is a book for train loving kids who have grown out of the more junior railway books. They will love it”
Dr Pete Waterman, OBE

Peter's Railway and the Moonlight Express
Christopher Vine
This is the second book in the Peter's Railway series. Peter and his Grandpa build more track and equipment for their railway across the farm and go on a visit to the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway. As usual, Grandpa tells stories from the old railways and Peter helps him to build and run the railway. In this book he learns to drive the locomotive.

Accompanying the story are simple technical pages with how-it-works information. they are at the end of relevant chapters, but do not need to be looked at to enjoy the story.

RATTY
by W Mc Gowan Gradon
When originally published in 1947 "Ratty" (as the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway has always been known) was still very much a working railway, carrying significant quantities of Beckfoot granite as well as large numbers of holidaymakers in the summer season. McGowan Gradon's book was the first complete history of the railway, tracing its origins from the original 3ft gauge railway opened in 1875 for mineral and passenger traffic, through the period of dereliction and rebuilding to 15 inch gauge in 1915 and its varied fortunes over the next 30-odd years. Included are full details of the locomotives and stock and a complete description of the line. This new edition retains all the original text with only minor factual corrections, but with an entirley new collection of illustrations, covering the entire period of the railway's life before the rescue for preservation in 1960. Softback, full colour cover, 56 pages, 46 black & white photographs.
